I thought it would be nice to do a lapbook on the Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle as Millie has been very interested in caterpillars since we found loads in our vegetable garden I just collected bits and pieces that she produced over a period of about a month and then i made it all into a lapbook using file folders. We had lots of fun learning about the butterfly cycle and doing various related craft pieces. My favourite was the Erice Carle style collage, i think it looks great. Millie made all the paper and then i cut it into shape and helped her a bit with sticking it down.
Left flap: Days of the week flapbook showing the different things we do on each day.
Middle: Collage in style of Eric Carle
Right flap: Butterflies for matching game (on back cover), Number sequence cards, Letter "c" book
Right, right flap: Millie's own version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Left flap: Butterfy Life cycle sequencing cards and VHC story sequencing cards
Middle: "From Egg to Animal" wheel (yeah, i know a butterfly isn't an animal, lol, but it comes with interchangeable discs!) and ink blot butterfly.
Right flap: Fold out booklet showing the lifecycle that Millie coloured in.
This was fun to make. I cut out all the necessary bits and she glued them in the book. Glued on a tiny pom pom for the egg, made a fingerprint caterpillar and punched holes in all the right places to show where he munched (her fave bit).
